Bio of art - words that relate to my work:

It is pleasurable to look at non-narrative motion - like water on the ocean, shadows on the wall or clouds against the sky. Imagine the feeling one gets while looking at a vast green field or a calm blue or silver ocean. Those sorts of scenes give a sense of what I try to impart. The viewer has to understand in some way and make it their own.

I experimented with line, composition, color while studying clothing and textile design at Michigan State University. I studied botany while at University of Michigan. I lived in London, England for five years exploring the art world. These things all influence me although the biggest influence currently is the natural world with its idea and feeling of tranquility. Motion and geometry also play a part. Encaustic wax with its depth and luminescence, is a primary medium, as is oil paint and cold wax. Other media that explore light also find their way to my studio - 3D hangings of silver, gold, and palladium leaf on small polyester squares of DuraLar. These hang in grids. See “Rain” which won third prize in Art Prize 2011, for an example.
